ABOUT WOODHAYES COUNTRY HOUSE | BOUTIQUE HOTEL EXETER

The House

Woodhayes Country House Devon has a long and interesting history. For much of the 20th Century it was owned by the Whiteways family, who Woodhayes County House Devon - The Exteriorestablished the Whiteway’s Cider Company that was located in Whimple village for the best part of 100 years from the late 1800s. Today, the house is still surrounded by the orchards that were used to supply the ‘cyder’ apples.

More recently, the house opened its doors to the public as a small country hotel in the late 1970s and became a favourite weekend retreat for a number of politicians of the day.

Woodhayes Luxury B&B Devon is now under new ownership, having been purchased by the current proprietors, Tony and Dominic, after they fell in love with the house on a visit to Whimple in 2008.  After months of painstaking and sympathetic restoration and refurbishment, they have succeeded in transforming this beautiful old house into a luxury retreat that combines classical Georgian features with cool contemporary style.

The Owners

Business partners Dominic Morgan and Tony Wiltshire had always had a dream to do something different and work for themselves. After 20 years of high-flying City life in London (Dominic as a Chartered Surveyor and Tony as a Chartered Accountant), they figured it was time to escape the rat race and look for a change of lifestyle. And when they weren’t working, what they enjoyed more than anything else was entertaining. So, when one of their friends joked that they should do it as a business, the seed was planted.

The opportunity to purchase Woodhayes Country House came at just the right time and has given Dominic and Tony the chance to pursue their passion and ensure that many other people can continue to enjoy this glorious country house and all it has to offer.
